For kidney insufficiency

Why is special kidney food for cats important?

The kidneys play a vital role in your cat’s metabolism: they filter toxins from the blood and regulate the body’s fluid balance. In cases of kidney insufficiency, this function is impaired, causing harmful substances to accumulate in the body. A specially adjusted diet for cats with kidney disease helps to relieve the kidneys and slow down the progression of the illness.

Our Fix-BA(R)F® kidney-special menus contain:

  • Lower phosphorus content: Reduced phosphate relieves the kidneys and slows disease progression.
  • High-quality proteins in moderate amounts: Easily digestible proteins reduce the formation of toxic ammonia and help prevent muscle loss.
  • Increased fat content: More fat provides a higher energy density and improves palatability.
  • Essential vitamins & minerals: Specially adapted B vitamins, biotin and folic acid support the metabolism.
  • Dietary fibre such as pectin: Pectin binds harmful substances in the intestines and reduces the formation of urea.

Kidney food for cats – natural & grain-free

Many conventional kidney diets contain grains or unnecessary fillers, which are often poorly tolerated by cats. Our raw Fix-BARF® or gently cooked Fix-BAF® kidney food is completely grain-free and contains no unnecessary additives. Instead, we rely on natural, high-quality ingredients.

Our renal complete menus are:

  • Grain-free & carbohydrate-free
  • Especially tasty & easy to digest
  • Perfectly tailored to the nutritional needs of cats with kidney disease

Thanks to their natural composition, our Fix-BA(R)F® renal products are highly digestible and suitable for long-term feeding.

The right way to feed kidney-supportive diets

Many cats with kidney disease suffer from loss of appetite or digestive issues. A slow transition to the new food can help increase acceptance. We recommend:

  • Gentle transition: Mix the new kidney food with the usual food at first and gradually increase the amount.
  • Moisten with lukewarm water: This improves texture and supports hydration.
  • Small, frequent meals: This helps to prevent nausea and ensures steady nutrient intake.

Regular veterinary checks are essential

Even though our kidney-supportive food is optimally tailored to the needs of cats with renal insufficiency, it should always be given in consultation with a veterinarian.

Particularly important are:

  • Regular blood tests to monitor the course of the disease.
  • Adjusted feeding duration: In some cases, additional phosphate binders or other nutrients may be required.

Our kidney-special menus were carefully developed in collaboration with our animal naturopath Petra von Quillfeldt to meet the special needs of your cat.
