BARF made easy with Fix-BARF® complete menus
Our Fix-BARF® complete menus live up to their name: they’re perfect for quick BARF-feeding! The different recipes were developed together with animal nutritionist and holistic vet Petra von Quillfeldt. Fix-BARF® is a healthy complete food containing all the supplements your pet needs for a balanced and species-appropriate diet. For example:
Blood for iron supply
Liver for vitamin A supply
Eggshell for calcium supply
Seaweed meal to meet iodine needs
Fix-BARF® for Cats
As a pure carnivore, cats depend on a protein-rich diet. Therefore, carbohydrates like grains, potatoes, and rice are not found in our Fix-BARF® complete menus for cats. Nor do we include sugar, flavor enhancers, dyes, or other artificial additives. Gently prepared from the best raw materials using individually calculated special recipes, all Fix-BARF® complete menus qualify as complete foods and can be fed long-term.
Fix-BARF® for Dogs
Our Fix-BARF® complete menus for dogs taste like homemade and are made exclusively from high-quality ingredients from Germany. They contain minced organ meats, fruits and vegetables, chunks of muscle meat, and coarsely ground bones. This makes the menus pleasantly chunky and supports the dog’s dental health. Of course, all our Fix-BARF® complete menus for dogs are also complete foods, designed to supply your dog with all important vitamins, minerals, and trace elements.
Valuable Supplements in Our Fix-BARF®
Each Fix-BARF® recipe is individually composed and calculated. For each complete menu, a specific nutrient mix is prepared and used to ensure needs-based feeding and prevent under- or over-supply.
Since opinions differ in the BARF community on which type of supplements is best, we created several approaches in our Fix-BARF® menus: some use only natural supplements, others combine synthetic and natural ingredients, and some rely solely on synthetic ones – the latter being ideal for allergy sufferers.
Open Declaration – Yes or No?
We believe that good food should always be transparently declared, which is why the proportions of meat, organs, bones, vegetables, and fruits in all our Fix-BARF® complete menus are open and clearly stated. However, the situation is different with supplements. Legally, anything under 3% of the total does not require exact declaration.
Stating the amount of a supplement does not reveal the nutrient content (e.g., iodine) in the whole recipe.
Even with exact supplement and nutrient data, the basis for calculation (i.e., which requirement table) is often unclear.
And finally: the Fix-BARF® brand wants to protect its recipes. There are many copycats out there, and full disclosure opens the door to imitation. Fix-BARF® is unique – and should stay that way!
Scientific Nutritional Values as Basis of Calculation
To calculate the nutrient content of our Fix-BARF® menus, we used various databases. This includes the German Nutrient Database and the well-known reference "Composition of Foods" by Souci/Fachmann/Kraut. Additionally, we used studies on farmed fish nutrition and taurine content in raw meat.
We determine dogs' and cats' nutritional needs using data from the National Research Council (NRC), which forms the basis for FEDIAF guidelines, the legal framework for pet food nutrient levels. Our menus are regularly analyzed to ensure balanced nutrition in compliance with regulations.
However, it’s important to understand that any calculation is an approximation. Every animal used for food has a different nutrient profile. The Souci/Fachmann/Kraut reference clearly shows how widely values can vary. We rely on averages for calculations – without knowing if they are accurate. A precise determination would require expensive lab analysis for every slaughtered animal.
Depending on the tables and values used, very different results can be obtained for the same animal. So let’s be clear: there is no guarantee for a universally correct calculation. It always depends on the selected model and data source. And let’s be honest: we humans don’t live by nutrition tables either – so giving your pet a treat or an extra bite of meat or fish won’t ruin their meal plan.
