For an Extra Boost of Energy
Animal fats are a valuable dietary component for dogs and cats. Dogs with high energy needs, such as very active dogs, working dogs, detection dogs, or pregnant and lactating females, rely on an extra portion of fat in their BARF meals. However, even regular household pets need to be supplied with sufficient fat. Fat provides important energy and essential amino acids, ensuring your pet has enough power for your shared adventures.
Balanced BARF Nutrition: The Right Fat Content Matters
Muscle meat forms the main component of a balanced BARF meal. Care should be taken not to feed exclusively lean meat. If the fat content is below the recommended 15% to 25%, it’s advisable to add fat in the form of animal fat, such as our beef or chicken fat. The required fat amount can easily be calculated using our Fat Calculator.
Instructions for Using the Fat Calculator
Please download the Fat Calculator to your computer or smartphone and enter the relevant data into the red-marked fields. To use the calculator properly, you'll need a PDF reader. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader here or from your app store for free.
BARF pyramid
The BARF pyramid opposite shows how BARF meals should be divided up for a healthy, adult dog. Normally, the rations consist of 80 % animal and 20 % vegetable components, although not all components need to be fed every day. Feeding sick animals or those with intolerances can look completely different. Our nutrition experts will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.
Feeding recommendation
For a balanced BARF diet for adult healthy dogs, we recommend a composition of 80% animal and 20% plant components. The animal portion should be divided into 50% muscle meat, 20% tripe and leaf tripe, 15% organs, and 15% raw meaty bones (RMB). The plant portion typically consists of 75% vegetables and 25% fruit.
To calculate the exact BARF rations for your dog, you can use our free BARF calculator. Enter your dog's data, and receive the results for balanced daily and weekly rations within seconds.
For adult healthy cats, the animal portion of the BARF rations should be 95%. The remaining 5% should consist of fiber-rich vegetables like carrots or pumpkin.
We recommend dividing the total food amount into at least two portions per day and supplementing it with essential dietary supplements such as Omega-3-6-9 oil and seaweed powder.
All of our BARF products should be stored in the freezer at -18 °C and thawed in the refrigerator for about 12 hours before feeding, either without packaging or with sufficient air holes. Serve the meat at room temperature.
