Spleen – an Important Component for a Balanced Diet
Spleen is an indispensable part of the BARF meal plan for your pet. As a blood-forming and blood-storing organ, the spleen is especially valuable as it is rich in iron, an essential nutrient for blood health. Therefore, you should never remove spleen from your pet’s diet without a suitable replacement.
Organs: Central Component of BARF Nutrition
Organs play a crucial role in BARF nutrition as they contain many valuable vitamins and minerals in a form and quantity not found in any other components. The most important organs include heart, liver, kidney, lung, and spleen. These should be fed in a balanced ratio to provide your pet with optimal nutrient supply. You can easily create the ideal mix using our Organ Calculator.
Instructions for Using the Organ Calculator
Please download the Organ Calculator to your computer or smartphone and enter the relevant data in the red-marked fields. To use and fill out the calculator properly, you need a PDF reader. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader here or from your app store for free.

BARF pyramid
The BARF pyramid opposite shows how BARF meals should be divided up for a healthy, adult dog. Normally, the rations consist of 80 % animal and 20 % vegetable components, although not all components need to be fed every day. Feeding sick animals or those with intolerances can look completely different. Our nutrition experts will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.
Feeding recommendation
For a balanced BARF diet for adult healthy dogs, we recommend a composition of 80% animal and 20% plant components. The animal portion should be divided into 50% muscle meat, 20% tripe and leaf tripe, 15% organs, and 15% raw meaty bones (RMB). The plant portion typically consists of 75% vegetables and 25% fruit.
To calculate the exact BARF rations for your dog, you can use our free BARF calculator. Enter your dog's data, and receive the results for balanced daily and weekly rations within seconds.
For adult healthy cats, the animal portion of the BARF rations should be 95%. The remaining 5% should consist of fiber-rich vegetables like carrots or pumpkin.
We recommend dividing the total food amount into at least two portions per day and supplementing it with essential dietary supplements such as Omega-3-6-9 oil and seaweed powder.
All of our BARF products should be stored in the freezer at -18 °C and thawed in the refrigerator for about 12 hours before feeding, either without packaging or with sufficient air holes. Serve the meat at room temperature.
