Powerhouse of Vitamins
Cod liver oil is a highly Omega-3-rich oil and an excellent natural source of vitamins A and D. These vitamins can help support the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the gut, thereby promoting the health of bones, joints, and muscles. Vitamin A also supports normal vision, while vitamin D plays a key role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Due to these properties, cod liver oil is an important supplement for dogs and cats, especially if they do not have liver and/or sea fish in their meals.
Natural Vitamin D Depot
If your dog or cat’s BARF diet does not incluide vitamin D-rich fish species, cod liver oil is an excellent alternative to meet their vitamin D needs.. It is still unclear whether dogs and cats can produce sufficient vitamin D through UV exposure on their skin. This is unlikely for pets that spend a significant portion of their lives indoors. Therefore, it is important to supplement vitamin D in their diet.

The above values serve as general guidelines. If fish is included in your pet’s meal plan, the administration of cod liver oil should be minimized or omitted entirely. Since Vitamin D can be overdosed, it’s best to consult a nutrition expert if you’re unsure about the dosage.
